A modern marine site can have up to 14 cages with 600,000 fish
The majority of Scottish Sea Farms sites are now three-ring, fully decked plastic circles, between 80 to 100 metres in circumference, keeping our people safe and improving working conditions.
Across a number of sites we continuously monitor cage-specific oxygen levels, allowing objective measurement of net hygiene and feeding to optimal physiological and environmental conditions.
The evolution of our sites has always reflected our responsibility to our fish. Our farms are equipped with underwater cameras which allow us to start and stop the feeding system and to observe the behaviour of the salmon. We have also invested in an Acoustic Deterrent System, this is used to prevent seal damage to nets using underwater sound.
