What is HCT?

Since April 2011 the Heart of the Community has supported local groups and charities deliver lasting change with in their local areas – areas that we operate in:

  • Shetland
  • Orkney
  • Highland
  • Argyll
  • Dumfries

Since its inception, Heart of the Community Trust has provided financial assistance to the value of £500k to over 40,000 people across rural communities in Scotland.


We believe in helping local communities to thrive. The average award is currently between £4000-£5000.  

Application Criteria

The principal aim for grant allocation will be to provide lasting change using the following criteria:     

  • Health & Health Promotion
  • Education
  • Personal Development that leads to the enhancement of a community
  • Community Projects that benefit the majority

How and When to Apply

Applications are reviewed 3 times a year. Closing dates for submissions are:

January 31st                           March 31st

May 31st                               July 31st

September 30th                   November 30th

Each application then goes through a screening process with regional ambassadors. Successful applications will then be submitted to the Heart of the Community Trustees for final verification.
