Label Rouge - Label Rouge quality mark granted by the French Ministry for Agriculture - Scottish Sea Farms

Label Rouge

In 1992, Scottish salmon was the first fish and the first foreign product to obtain the prestigious Label Rouge quality mark granted by the French Ministry for Agriculture. Scottish Sea Farms salmon was awarded the internationally acclaimed Label Rouge award in recognition of it superior quality, particularly in relation to taste.

Indeed, on the tenth anniversary of the accreditation Michel Blanchet, Chairman of Master Chefs of France commented:

"The Association of Master Chefs is constantly looking for excellence to ensure it can offer its customers the very best. It was not by chance that the top chefs – who constitute the most highly starred group in the world – have formed an association with Label Rouge Scottish salmon.”

In 2004, Scottish salmon obtained Protected Geographical Indication status (PGI) granted by the European authorities. PGI is awarded to a product or a food with strong links to its geographical origin.

Label Rouge and PGI provide dual recognition of the superior quality and the origin of Label Rouge Scottish salmon.
